Traffic chaos was caused during this morning's rush hour after a lorry crashed into a pillar on the M20 last night.

The accident happened on the coastbound carriageway on the Canterbury Road bridge close to junction 9, at about 2am today (Thursday).

Emergency services including firefighters were called but the driver was unhurt.

Two fire engines were called out but a spokesman for Ashford Fire Station said: “Thankfully there was no spillage from the vehicle so we were only required there for 20 minutes.”

Lane closures on the motorway caused lengthy delays for drivers trying to get into and out of Ashford town centre this morning.
