Lorry crash shuts motorway

The M2 was closed overnight after a crash involving a lorry.

The accident happened on the coastbound carriageway between junctions five and six for the A249 Sittingbourne turning and the A251 Faversham and Ashford road.

It repoened just before this morning's rush hour.

Meanwhile, passing motorists stopped to help when a lorry went off the same motorway yesterday.

It happened about 1.30pm on the London-bound carriageway, a mile before the Faversham turning at junction six.

The foreign-registered vehicle went down a bank at the side of the road and the trailer became wedged against trees.

Motorists stopped to help the Bosnian driver, who was unhurt. Police set up a rolling road block to control traffic prior to the scene.

Debris and glass was spilt across the carriageway and one lane was closed while the lorry was unloaded and recovered.
