Lockers were broken into at Medway Park, in Gillingham

Gym users are being told to be on their guard after a string of locker thefts across Medway.

Detectives are investigating 13 thefts from two leisure centres in the Towns.

Money, bank cards, jewellery and mobile phones have been taken after lockers were broken into while gym users were exercising.

Kent Police said the thefts happened at Medway Park and Strood Leisure Centre between July 8 and August 29.

Officers are said to be investigating several lines of inquiry and working with Medway Council.

One victim was doing aqua aerobics when her purse was snatched from her locker at Medway Park, in Gillingham.

It is believed the thief went through her locker and replaced everything carefully - but in the wrong order.

DS Rik Spicer said: "We are currently investigating 13 reports of theft from leisure centres.

"We are working closely with Medway Council and the management teams from the centres to establish who is responsible.

"We would like to take this opportunity to ask members of the public to keep vigilant when using the leisure facilities.

"Report anything suspicious to a member of staff, alternatively if you see a crime being committed - contact police."

Anyone with information is asked to phone Kent Police on 101 or Kent Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
