Plastic bags, glass bottles, beer cans, wood with nails in, crisp bags and sweet wrappers, and disposable cups were among some of the rubbish that children from Birchington primary school found during a litter pick at Minnis Bay.

Youngsters from the school’s eco council and school council were joined by community warden Liam Doogan as part of their environmental awareness programme.

They have already held a litter pick at the Dog Acre green space in Birchington village, and are carrying out a number of community events towards gaining a green flag eco award for the school.

The Minnis Bay event was organised by learning mentor Rebecca Kup and behaviour mentor Sarah Hart, with help from family liaison officer Lesley Green.
