ONE of the fastest aircraft ever built was a definite crowd pleaser at Rochester Airport's annual open day.

The refurbished Lightning jet fighter, used in combat during the Cold War, was on display on Sunday alongside other visiting aircraft, after being bought back to its former glory at nearby BAE systems.

Visitors also had the chance to take a flight in a Rapide biplane, an attraction which proved to be very popular at the open day last year.

The Army air core, an exhibition of classic cars and aero jumble sale selling aircraft models also attracted visitors to the family event.
