Lift off for Easter Blast this week

Young people can have a blast at three free events being held in Broadstairs, Ramsgate and Margate.

The Easter Blast Days are packed with a huge range of free activities for young people from different organisations in Thanet, with the event put together by the Engage group. All three events, which have received money from the Big Lottery Fund, will take place from 1pm to 4pm.

The first event takes place on Thursday April 8 at Dane Park in Margate, with the second on Friday 9 April at Victoria Gardens in Broadstairs, by the bandstand. The final one is in Ramsgate at the Warre Rec on Thursday 15 April.

There will be loads of sporting activities from Thanet District Council's Sport Matters team, including an inflatable football pitch, tug of war, ultimate Frisbee and volleyball. MC, music tech and lyric writing sessions will be on offer from Pie Factory Music and they will also be bringing their mobile music unit and you can try out African drumming.

The Thanet Coast Project will be raising awareness of some of the weird and wonderful marine creatures that live around Thanet's coastline, as well as running an art activity with Art 4 All, where you can make fabulous arty creations with a marine theme. There will also be a chill out tent, with a temporary spray-on tattoo parlour. You can also enjoy breakdance workshops, self defence tasters from Artwise, giant games and inflatables. East Kent Mencap will be doing facepainting and providing craft activities and games for younger children.

We will also be running a buddy system at these events to help everyone access everything on offer. This enables young people with disabilities to buddy up with someone closer to their own age to enjoy the event and activities, rather than hanging out with parents or carers. It also gives carers a chance to chat to representatives from various local support groups and access information.

There will be a wealth of information stands offering advice, leaflets, and freebies, including the Kent Fire and Rescue Service, Kent Police, Connexions, NHS sexual health, drug and alcohol awareness, plus details from all Engage member groups of their own upcoming activities.

Orange and blue flyers have been distributed community centres, youth centres, clubs and venues around Thanet. Details of Easter Blast can also be found on the Thanet Youth Matters website at www.thanetyouthmatters.co.uk or pick up a free copy of the spring edition of Youth Matters magazine in schools or from various locations around Thanet.

The Easter Blast events are accessible to everyone. To check suitability, please contact jasmin@piefactorymusic.com or call 01843 596777.
