LATEST: Arrest after Olympic athlete Andrew Mccabe's running spikes stolen from Tonbridge School

A man has been arrested following a report of a theft from an Olympic athlete in Tonbridge.

A 28 year-old man from Tonbridge was arrested at 11.30pm last night (Saturday) after detectives investigating the theft appealed for help from the public. Yesterday they released CCTV images of two people they want to trace.

Australian runner Andrew McCabe was practicing at Tonbridge School, in London Road, when he had his training bag snatched.

It contained the 21-year-old’s running shoes as well as his national kit and other personal items, including a mobile phone.

Kent Police said the theft was reported to have happened at 4.47pm on Friday.

A number of items have now been recovered.

The man was questioned by detectives and later released on police bail until August 10.

McCabe is competing in the 4x100m relay team on Friday.
