"Landmine" was a lump of concrete

A Medway village was at the centre of a bomb scare when a gardener reported unearthing a landmine.

Police were called to Higham Road, Cliffe, shortly after noon on Friday to investigate reports of an unexploded device.

The gardener told officers he had been digging a flowerbed when he discovered a brown object roughly the size of a tin of tuna. He believed the item to be a landmine.

On closer inspection , the officers discovered it to be a circular lump of concrete.

A spokesman for Kent Police said:"In these situations it is better to be safe rather than sorry."
