King Kong goes ape in Medway

King Kong is in Medway today, but don't worry, he looks a lot smaller in real life.

British actor Andy Serkis, famous for playing the big ape, and for his portrayal of Gollum in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, is filming at Dickens World, in Chatham Maritime today.

He is shooting a pilot for a new series called Newgate, which is set in the London of 1720.

The show has been described as a English period version of the American hit TV series Sopranos, and will take advantage of Dickens World's labyrinth of dark streets, ramshackle houses and filthy waterways.

If produced the series will be on air next year.
