CHILDREN celebrated their half-term holiday with a dip in the re-opened Splashes leisure pool at Rainham which closed last month after swimmers were hit by debris from the ventilation system.

Splashes, in Bloors Lane, opened again yesterday after being closed for almost a month for repair work.

Although the centre's gym has been open since the middle of this month, yesterday was the first day swimmers could use the pool again. But the popular flume water slide is still closed and will not open again until March 10.

A spokesman for Medway Council said: "While the centre was closed we took the opportunity to repair the flume steps, so they are still covered up but the pool is open for business.

"We apologise for any inconvenience the closure has caused and we are delighted it has reopened. We hope that people will continue to use the pool."
