Kent's BNP members receive threats

A Kent BNP activist has hit out at those who published a leaked document with the personal details of 12,000 BNP members.

Threats and abusive phone calls have been received by BNP members up and down the country after the membership list was put online.

The list reveals there are 227 members in Kent with the highest concentration in the Maidstone area.

Kent’s BNP affiliates include ex-servicemen, business owners and animal welfare workers. In some cases entire families have joined.

The list indicates:

one member has decided to switch over to the UK Independence Party.

one has decided not renew membership because they object to being told they cannot wear a bomber jacket.

BNP Parliamentary Candidate for Shepway Harry Williams said: “I am not bothered about my name being on the list but I sympathise with people who have sensitive jobs up and down the country.

“We have dozens of people in the police, armed forces, medical and legal professions.

“If a lawyer openly stated he was a member of the BNP, then it could affect his business, so revealing this list is disgraceful.

“I think the law should come down heavily on the people who have released this information.

“It should also come down hard on any company that might dismiss an employee after finding out they are a member of the party.”

Police and prison officers are banned from joining the BNP.

Doctors must not allow beliefs to compromise care or attempt to impose political views on patients.

Armed forces personnel are not explicitly banned but personnel are barred from political activity or demonstration.

BNP membership concentration

Medway has the second highest concentration of members in the county behind Maidstone with Dartford close behind.

The Canterbury, Ashford and Thanet areas all have a similar number while the Isle of Sheppey has the fewest in the county.

Members are found in many affluent areas of the county including Edenbridge, Tunbridge Wells and Sevenoaks
