Five Kent rugby players have been selected for the England Counties under-20 squad for their forthcoming trip to Georgia.

England will be taking part in two tests and from the 25-man squad two players are from Medway RFC, two from Canterbury and one from Sevenoaks.

Those five were chosen to play for England, from a large pool of players that included eight from Kent, after impressing national team selectors at this week’s tournament at Welbeck College, Loughborough.

Kent under-20 coach Taff Gwilliam was delighted to see so many players from the county chosen.

He said: "It is a huge boost for the county and a big rise from last year where just one player in the squad was from the South East.

"We now have 12 from the region, including five from Kent, and it can’t be understated how good that is for rugby in the county.

"It shows that the development programmes at Kent RFU are developing good young talent."

The Medway pair are George Oram and Ryan Redman, the two from Canterbury are Aiden Moss and Jesse Liston, while Josh Pettet represents Sevenoaks.

Those who just missed the cut were Kwako Asiedu, Reece Conlon and Douglas Ebanks.

Those players selected progressed to the development and selection weekend after impressing at country and regional level.

The Welbeck weekend saw four divisional squads play a series of tens matches, followed by seminars and coaching.

London and South East faced the Midlands team at the end of the weekend, where the selectors made their choice. The Georgia tour takes place next month.
