Kent are aiming to strengthen their bowling resources ahead of next season.

Director of cricket Paul Farbrace declined to name any names but confirmed the county had written to several counties seeking permission to talk to players out of contract at the end of the season.

He did, though rule out any moves to sign Nottinghamshire’s Charlie Shreck or Warwickshire’s former England all-rounder Rikki Clarke.

Shreck played one game on loan earlier this season before being called back to Trent Bridge, while Clarke’s deal at Edgbaston ends this summer.

Farbrace (pictured) said: "We need to strengthen our bowling unit and are looking at different types in a certain age group who have still got good careers ahead of them.

"Approaches have been made about a few players but it is an ongoing process and will be for the next couple of weeks. We are flying in the t20 and struggling in the Championship and it’s down to our strength in bowling depth.

"It’s no surprise to me that we have qualified for t20 because we brought in two decent bowlers."
