Kent chairman George Kennedy has denied rumours the county cricket club could go into administration, despite another deficit this year.

The county’s continued financial woes, which have seen them post substantial six-figure losses in the last two years – and release bowler Amjad Khan as they could not afford to offer him a new contract – have led to rumours about Kent’s long-term viability.

But Mr Kennedy (pictured) retorted: "It is nonsense. I’m utterly convinced that will not happen. The loss will be lower this year and the next two years will be tough, with the ground set to look like a huge building site."

Mr Kennedy said he was also "totally relaxed" about the six-figure loan he made to the county earlier this year.

He said: "It’s not due to be paid back until the end of the year and I’m sure it will be."
