Kent County Cricket Club end Scott Newman's loan spell at St Lawrence

Kent have decided not to take up an option to extend Scott Newman's loan at St Lawrence.

The left-hander signed a two-month loan deal at the beginning of the season, but has struggled to impress, registering just one half-century at an average of less than 25 from seven games.

As a result, his loan, which was due to expire at the end of this month, was cut short with the 32-year-old returning to Middlesex last week. Sam Northeast replaced him in the side that thrashed Leicestershire by an innings and 279 runs.

Kent's head coach, Jimmy Adams, said: "The loan has come to an end and as it stands we have not made any plans to extend that loan period.

"We've cut it short by a game to bring Northeast in. He's earned the right for a place in the first team. We all hope he grabs the opportunity."

Adams (pictured) also confirmed there were no plans to bring in an additional overseas player for the start of the Friends Life T20 competition.
