Kent's embattled commuters could face more fare hikes.

The Government is expected to say today that a shake-up of costs will drive fares down, not up.

Ministers will respond later to a review by Sir Roy McNulty on value for money on the railways.

It is expected to recommend an overhaul of ticket prices and staff cuts.

The Transport Secretary, Philip Hammond says privatisation costs have gone up significantly.

He added: "We need to tackle the cost base of the railway.

"This report today is about how to start getting the costs under control, making the railway more efficient so both the taxpayer and the fare payer can get a better deal in the future.
