Kent have rubbished speculation they may be forced to switch their opening LV County Championship home game against Gloucestershire on April 26 to Beckenham if redevelopment work at the St Lawrence is delayed.

Chief Executive Jamie Clifford said: “We have talked about our plans if things are not ready, but our director of cricket Paul Farbrace wants to play the game at Canterbury even if the team has to change in a portakabin.

“I suppose anybody driving past the ground at the moment would wonder how we are going to stage cricket here, but there are two months still go.

"We are in the hands of the contractors, but I can put rumours that we will be playing at Beckenham firmly to bed.”
