As expected, Kent's LV County Championship match with Nottinghamshire at Tunbridge Wells petered out to a final day draw on Monday.

Kent batted on for most of the morning session before finally being dismissed for 570.

Darren Stevens fell three runs short of a double hundred but there were contributions by Malinga Bandara (29) and Simon Cook (26 not out).

Matt Coles took the early wicket of Alex Hales (13) to give Kent hope on the stroke of lunch.

But Samit Patel dug in to score an unbeaten 76 from 186 balls to guide Notts to safety, despite a wicket apiece for Bandara and James Tredwell.

Nottinghamshire declared their second innings on 210-3 from 62 overs as the two captains shook hands on a draw.

The visitors had made 462 in their first innings with Hales scoring 95 and former England wicketkeeper Chris Read making 112 not out. Cook (pictured) was the pick of the Kent attack with 4-85.

Kent were struggling at 176-5 in reply but Stevens (197) and Tredwell (115) came together to put on a record 270 for the sixth wicket.
