Judith is our best mum

Mothering Sunday proved to be an extra special one for Judith Chivers, a mum from Worth with a bigger smile than usual on her big day.

Her daughter Octavia, 15, secretly entered her into a kmfm competition and the family had a big surprise when she won the Shepway and White Cliffs area final.

Mrs Chivers received chocolates, champagne, flowers and a P&O ferry trip to France in Kent’s Best Mum contest.

She said: “It was a lovely surprise and I was absolutely gobsmacked when my daughter answered the phone from kmfm.”

The champagne was sipped on Sunday to celebrate and there is a day out in France to enjoy at Easter.

Mrs Chivers’ husband Anthony died five years ago and apart from her daughter, a Dover Grammar student, she has a son Dominic, 12, also a Dover Grammar pupil.

“I am so proud of them. It has been tough since their father died, but they are so helpful at home. They have both amazed me.”

Octavia’s entry said: “I think my mum should be Kent’s super mum because she is always putting others before herself.

“Although she has coped with a lot in her life as our father died five years ago through cancer, she still carries on and provides us with the best care and attention anyone can give a person."
