Storm Jonas poses flood risk to Kent today

Ferries from the port of Dover are being delayed this morning as the remnants of Storm Jonas hit Kent.

It caused massive blizzards on the east coast of America at the weekend, but Jonas is now bringing strong winds and rain to the county.

Cross-channel services to France are being delayed by up to two hours.

Meanwhile, pressure is being piled on the transport network - with waiting times of up to two hours on Eurotunnel due to a technical problem.

The coast-bound entry slip road has been closed at J11 for Hythe due to traffic management as lorries wait for Eurotunnel trains.

In Sissinghurst, the A262 The Street is blocked due to a fallen tree near Common Road.

Strong winds and up to 40mm of rain are set to hit southern and western Kent, where a wet winter means already saturated ground could be flooded and driving conditions could be difficult.

As part of its yellow "be aware" warning, the Met Office also warns of gale-force winds along the south coast.

The worst of the rain is likely to arrive in Kent later today after having swept across the west of the country.
