Jobs to go at BAE

UP TO 150 jobs are set to be slashed by one of Medway’s biggest employers.

BAE Systems in Rochester is to cut more than 100 jobs in an attempt to be more competitive.

Bosses at the avionics and defence base said there was a reduced need for software skills.

The company, which employs 1,719 staff at its Rochester base, said attempts would be made to find alternative employment for any workers whose jobs are made redundant.

Rochester managing director Andy Start said: "We recognise this is a difficult period for all employees and their families and we will continue to do everything practical to mitigate the number of compulsory job losses".
