Kent head coach Jimmy Adams has urged his players to maintain the same standards from the opening game of the season as they look for their first win of the summer in the LV= County Championship match at Northamptonshire, which starts on Thursday.

Adams was pleased with his side’s display in the draw against Yorkshire at Headingley, particularly with Kent’s total of 537-9 in which the majority of the batting line-up made runs.

He said: "There were a lot of positives and I’m pretty happy with this start. Scoring 500 in an innings in any version of the game I am more than happy with and we had a first-class hundred in the dressing room as well.

"Most of the top six got starts and as the game went on, the bowling got better and better so there are some good signs and I would take that as a starting point.

"I don’t know about setting the tone for the season but if my memory serves me right, it really helps with the confidence side of things to get to a landmark like that on our first outing."

Off-spinner James Tredwell will return to the side, in place of Adam Riley, in the only change for the game at the County Ground, while skipper Rob Key will continue to the lead the side despite revealing he will continue to wear ice packs on his troublesome wrists for the remainder of his career.

Adams is hopeful his side will put in another good display against Northants – who lost their opening game of the season against Derbyshire by 202 runs.

He said: "If the attitude stays the way it is then I am sure we will get the performances to follow. I’m keen that we maintain the same attitude and same approach."
