Welling boss Jamie Day has signed a deal to stay at Park View Road until the end of next season.

The Wings boss has again assembled a squad capable of challenging for the play-offs in Blue Square Bet South after missing out in the final to Dartford last season – and says he will remain at the club as long as he is happy.

"I’ve always said that as long as the club is moving in the right direction and I’m happy being here then I will stay," said Day.

"I feel that it brings stability to the club and it shows that we are not going to jump ship and join the first club that comes along for us.

"Of course everyone has ambition – me and my coaching staff do – but it shows that I am happy with the way we are progressing on and off the field.

"Infact, off the field it has been the best year since I have been at the club."

Day’s reputation is continuing to increase and it is believed that the club were keen to complete the deal to end any speculation about his future.

He added: "For me a club at our level is a sideway step now. We’ve got a good squad here and a decent fanbase that we want to increase.

"When I first took over, it took a while to get used to everything as it was new. But the three of us are developing now as coaches and people.

"I’ve got a few more grey hairs then when I took over! But I enjoy it here, I enjoy coming to work.

"I didn’t really need the contract as I trust the owners anyway – I haven’t had one up to now – but it’s nice to be wanted."

The Wings have also agreed a deal with striker Ross Lafayette, who signed a contract to stay at the club until the end of the season after the 1-1 draw with Thurrock on Saturday in the FA Cup.
