Welling player/manager Jamie Day has given his first indication that he wants to stay at Park View Road next season.

Day (pictured) led the Wings to within a point of the Blue Square Bet South play-offs in his first full season in charge.

But with financial concerns still hanging over the club, there is doubt as to whether he will get the opportunity to build on his sucess.

"If the budget is what I'd like or near to it then there's no reason for me to go," said Day.

"I've said to the owners that we'll sit down this week and discuss the budget as I want to be somewhere that's progressing.

"We need to build on what we did this year, but it depends on what we've got to play with and if I feel we are going in the right direction."

Not for the first time in recent weeks, Day dismissed suggestions that he is already being approached to take over at other clubs.

"I haven't thought about (leaving)," said Day. "I haven't read too much into the rumours as there hasn't been contact from anyone.

"My job was to get this club into Conference National and if everything is okay then I can see no reason why we can't try and achieve that next year.

"Maybe it's a case of unfinished business. I want to keep the players that we've got and be able to add to that. It would be pointless us trying to get rid of our best players - we need to look forward.

"If the budget is (too low) then we will look to keep the younger ones that we've got and then try to wheel and deal to get a squad that is capable of challenging.

"It would be very disappointing because a lot of players have come in and played their first full season and have gained from that experience - we have to see what the club come up with."

Day disclosed that talks will being with the players he wants to keep at the club once the budget is known but Jack Parkinson, Jack Oberstellar, Luis Cumbers, Andy Pugh and Loick Pires have all been offered new deals.

"I spoke to all of the squad after the final game," added Day. "I've told them that once I speak to the club about the budget then I will have some figures to play with and can come back to them.

"They are aware of that and they know that I will stick to my word - and that is what I will do."
