Kent secured a second-placed finish in Group C of the Clydesdale Bank 40 but missed out on a place in the semi-finals to Essex.

James Tredwell took 4-20 as they overcame Durham by 31 runs in the final CB40 fixture at the Riverside on Saturday.

Joe Denly's 77 was the lone high point for the visitors as they posted a meagre total of 144, Chris Rushworth and Neil Kileen taking three wickets apiece.

However the hosts were unable to challenge the Kent score and Tredwell and Malinga Bandara (2-23) managed to keep wickets falling at regular intervals.

Durham were eventually dismissed for 113 in 33 overs as Kent finished their campaign on a high with a fifth successive win.
