Kent duo Jack Green and Lisa Dobriskey have been named in the provisional Great Britain squad for this month's European Athletics Championships in Finland.

The pair have been included in the initial 109-strong party for the event in Helsinki - which starts on June 27 - despite being included in the field for the British Olympic trials in Birmingham this weekend.

Green, 20, from Maidstone, is chosen in the 400m hurdles, but not for the 4x400m relay team, while 28-year-old Dobriskey, from New Romney, is in the 1,500m field.

Green said: "It is a strange thing, because even though I have never been to a European Championships, I don't want to go. If I find myself going it means that I've failed in what I aimed for which is qualifying for the Olympics.

"If I do go, with no Dai Greene there, I'll be number one, the man to beat. It's a very strange feeling to know I could go, but I don''t want to.

"I couldn't do both. Once you go through three rounds of the Europeans that is a lot of racing in your legs and you don't need that so soon before the Olympics."

UK Athletics has said any athlete who qualifies for London at the weekend will be removed from the final squad which is announced next week.
