Little Ivy Rushforth will have double cause for celebration when the Olympics get under way in London in 2012.

The date of the Games’ opening ceremony coincides with her seventh birthday.

Ivy, from Walderslade, will celebrate her third birthday and Medway’s countdown to 2012 this Sunday, by taking part in the Medway Mile.

She will be joined by her brothers and sister and her parents, plus aunties, uncles and cousins, to enjoy the free festival of sport at the Black Lion leisure centre in Gillingham.

Ivy’s mum Emma Rushforth said: “We thought it would be great to have a family get-together to

celebrate her birthday and enjoy all the activities laid on.

The Medway Mile: Medway Gets Active takes place four years to the day until the start of the London 2012 Olympic Games. Free activities on offer from 1.30pm to 6pm include judo, table tennis, athletics, trampolining and football.

The afternoon will culminate in the fun run at 4pm.

The Medway Mile is organised by Medway Council and supported by the Medway Primary Care Trust and the Medway Messenger.

To register for the mile, visit www.medway.gov.uk/london2012

Entrants can also register on the day.
