It's an Islander's life for me - catch up with Shipwrecked's Swampy

Barrie 'Swampy’ Ridley beat 80,000 people to make it onto Channel 4’s hit show Shipwrecked. In this weekly column, he shares his experiences with Emma Grove...

Last Sunday’s episode proved a blow for the Sharks, as new arrivals Michael and Vicky found their loyalties swaying rapidly between the Sharks and Tigers.

The new arrivals spent equal amounts of time on both islands - first with the Sharks and when they left, both were adamant they would come back to them

But the Tigers had spent lots of time building a large nightclub, named Char’s Bar after original Tiger Char went to the secret third island.

Shark Barrie said: “When we saw the bar we thought it was really impressive. But I didn’t realise until I saw the show how much effort they had put in.

“It made us think 'oh dear’ – we need to do something and need to start building.”

At the beach party, Michael and Vicky chose the Tigers - a huge shock for the Sharks, and the sudden change of heart made them suspicious that the Tigers had been using dirty tactics again by guaranteeing places to persuade the new arrivals to stay.

He said: “We were so disappointed. They were definitely Sharks when they left and we were so confident because they had given us the impression and given us their word they would pick us.”

And Barrie also revealed his joy at meeting one of this week's new arrivals Lottie - the only other Shipwrecker who had heard of Sheppey!

He said: “I had that bond with Lottie because no one else believes Sheppey is a real place. They always ask me about it and are really intrigued.”

Read Barrie's interview in full - and more hints on future twist on island life - in this week's Sheerness Times Guardian.
