Islanders to debate airport plan

A PUBLIC meeting is to be held on the Isle of Sheppey on Monday night (October 28) to discuss the proposal for an airport at Cliffe.

Jane Goddard, chairman of the Cliffe Airport Action Group, will be attending the meeting, which is to be held at the Borough Hall in Queenborough at 7pm, to advise Swale residents on how to fight the proposal which will not only affect the Isle of Grain but Sheppey too.

Cllr Adrian Crowther said: "The council is going to fight it anyway but people want to have their say so it's simpler to have a public meeting. It's not just for the people of Sheppey to attend. Anyone across the borough the is welcome."

Meanwhile, questionnaires are being sent to every home in Sheppey and Sittingbourne giving residents the opportunity to have their say on the plans.

Conservative borough councillor Christine Coles is spearheading the campaign which is being backed by Gordon Henderson, the local parliamentary and media spokesman.
