Is ice rink on its way?

Will Ashford ever get its much wanted ice rink?

Leisure surveys for the past two decades have put skating at the top of peoples' wish list.

Now there is renewed hope an ice rink could be on its way.

Ashford council cabinet member Cllr Gerry Clarkson has revealed that officers have been in discussion with an operator for a year and those talks continue.

But he said he had no firm proposals to bring forward.

He was replying to Cllr Robert Packham, who praised the town for having the finest athletic stadium, leisure centre and multi-screen cinema complex.

“But when will Ashford have what people have been waiting 20 years for – the ice rink?” asked Cllr Packham.

Cllr Clarkson said as soon as there were firm proposals a report would be presented to members.
