Indecent images seized from lorry driver's cab

CUSTOMS officials have seized around 50 indecent photographs from a lorry attempting to enter the UK through the Port of Ramsgate.

The images had been hidden in an overhead locker of a cab being driven by 49-year-old British man Gary Shaun Gerrard.

Mr Gerrard, of no fixed address, was intercepted and questioned by HM Revenue and Customs officers at the inward controls.

He has been charged with downloading and the possession of indecent photographic images.

Bev Morgan, a spokesman for HMRC, said: "We're at the forefront of the fight to stop materials of this nature entering the UK and to reduce the associated harm to our communities.

"We aim to protect society from this activity wherever we detect it, at the border or inland."

Anyone with information relating to smuggled goods can contact HMRC's confidential hotline number on 0800 595 000.
