Hundreds of homes left without power during Storm Ciara

Hundreds of homes in Kent are without power as Storm Ciara continues this afternoon.

The outage has affected homes across the county - including ones in Margate, Wingham, Chartham, Folkestone, Romney Marsh, Ashford, Aylesford and Paddock Wood, according to UK Power Network.

The reasons behind the outages differ including faults in underground electricity lines and damaged overhead lines.

Engineers are working to get the power back on in various areas and the situation is constantly changing.

The outages come as Storm Ciara continues to batter the county.

Affected postcodes include CT9 1, CT9 4, CT12 5, CT7 0, CT9 4, CT9 5, CT12 4, CT3 1, CT2 0, CT3 4, CT14 0, ME13 9, CT15 5, CT14 0, ME11 5, ME20 7, TN11 9,TN30 7, ME3 7, ME3 8, plus more.

The extreme weather has caused travel chaos as roads and railway lines have been blocked by falling trees, and bridges into the QEII Bridge at the Dartford Crossing and the Sheppey Crossing have shut.

In addition, no ferries are leaving the Port of Dover.

Major attractions, including Leeds Castle, Rochester Castle and Port Lympne reserve, have also shut to visitors.

The Met Office issued an amber warning as winds are expected to reach 80mph in some areas.
