A Margate hotel has been shut down after a spate of criminal damage, drug dealing and burglaries.

The owner of the Edorian Hotel in Harold Road, Cliftonville, was contacted by police and council officers after incidents at the premises escalated during September.

Kent Police said that residents and friends of associates had been targeting each other inside the property, affecting the quality of life of those people living nearby.

Cliftonville West PC Alex Taylor said he was grateful to the owner of the hotel, Samantha Cush, for "her understanding" and added that a future use for the site was now being sought.

Ms Cush, who lives in France, said: "Although I am not happy with the situation that has developed at the hotel, I am very glad it is now being resolved."
