Hoo's Hoo - Book of memories published

A book signing was tinged with sadness for co-author Kathy Evans.

Douglas March, who helped to write the book Hoo’s Who - A Century of Memories, sadly passed away before he could see his work in print.

The book documents a century of memories and history on the Hoo Peninsula.

Mr March, from Rochester, grew up on the Isle of Grain and wanted to preserve the memories of his friends from the area.

Doug was keen to capture their character and way of life and share the memories with others, so he asked friend Kathy Evans to help collate them into a book.

The publication takes readers through a series of revealing conversations which cast light on the lives of Medway people.

Kathy, who now lives in Chichester, was signing copies at Baggins Book Bazaar in Rochester on Saturday .

She said: “I was really anxious about doing the book signing without Doug, it was a poignant day for me.

“We had a picture of Doug there and his wife came along.

“We had so many people attend; lots of old acquittances, families of people who I had spoken to when writing the book, and new faces too.”

“The book appeals to people because it is an unusual social history and it is about real lives.”

“I’ve been amazed at the response to the book. The kind comments I’ve had, it’s been wonderful - Doug would have been so thrilled.”

• Copies of the book are available from the Medway Visitor Centre, High Street, Rochester or online using the link below.
