A REPLICA of the sailing ship Discovery - that took the first settlers from the UK via Gravesend to Virginia in America 400 years ago - arrived in Thanet not by sea but low loader.

It took up berth at the Quex House museum and gardens in Birchington as part of a nationwide tour to promote the anniversary of the first English speaking settlement in Jamestown in 1607.

Hundreds of visitors are taking advantage of the chance to look over the replica during its visit at the Quex estate until this Wednesday.
