High street estate agent closes its doors

The Maidstone High Street branch of Halifax Estate Agency has closed its doors - ahead of official closure on September 23.

An announcement in August had warned that 53 UK offices would close, with the loss of 100 jobs.

A member of staff at the branch said: "Officially we lock the doors on the 23rd. We have no more properties."

The Canterbury branch closed on September 11. Ashford, Gillingham, Whitstable and Herne Bay are among branches known to still be trading.

There are 100 Halifax estate agencies in Kent. Some staff from closed offices are understood to have been relocated.
