Met Office issues yellow weather warning for rain and thunderstorms in Kent

Kent is bracing itself for a miserable few days after weather warnings for downpours and thunderstorms were issued, with some already hitting the county.

The Met Office has put out a yellow weather warning for heavy rain today until 7pm for the whole of the county, so make sure you have your brollies and coats.

Forecasters say people can expect flooding on roads - which could impact journey times - and flooding of homes and businesses "is possible".

Some of the heaviest showers could batter coastal areas, where about 25mm of rain could pour down in an hour.

Rain has already battered parts of the county, with heavy downpour and some flooding being seen on the M2 near Maidstone.

Tomorrow, the picture is bleaker as heavy showers and thunderstorms could bring some disruption, especially to transport.

Delays to train services, damage to buildings from lightning strikes and power cuts are all possible.

They are expected to develop quickly later tomorrow morning but are predicted to peak during the afternoon and continue into the evening.

The warning is in place from 11am until 8pm tomorrow.

It comes after gale-force winds battered the county this week amid Storm Francis.
