Is this the future for Whitstable? Seagull's eye view of Gillingham Marina

COUNCILLORS in Whitstable and the harbour board have already given their views on the proposed marina for the town.

Now its the turn of members of the public to give their opinions.

Town architect Peter Jackson has come up with a plan for a 475-berth marina next to the harbour off Long Beach and supporters say it will improve boating and watersports.

It has been given a cautious welcome by officials and many of the town’s water-based groups are also behind the plan.

But what do other people think?

The scheme will change the area's coastline forever and the Kent Messenger Group wants to know if people in the local community and elsewhere in the county are happy with the idea.

What about the development that is essential to make the project financially viable? Would you be happy to see homes built in the marina - and who should live there?

Staff at the Whitstable Gazette have set up a special telephone poll to give the town a chance to speak and to let the people behind the project know what you think. The results will appear in the March 18 edition of the Whitsbale Gazette.
