Golf course damaged in police pursuit

FAIRWAYS and greens were damaged as car thieves drove a stolen jeep across a golf course.

The police pursuit across Cray Valley Golf Course ended with the blue Cherokee crashing at the bottom of the course.

The stolen vehicle was first spotted in St Mary Cray High Street and was then followed into Main Road and Sandy Lane, before going across the golf course for about a mile.

Police said extensive damage had been done to the course, including the car being driven through several wooden fences and across fairways and greens.

Bob Purchase, shop assistant at the golf club, said business had not been affected by the incident and people were still able to use the course.

He added: "It's caused damage but we've worked round it. We have put sand on the green they have driven across and we will repair the fences as and when."

Police confirmed that so far no arrests have been made.
