The football and rugby seasons have ended, cricket has begun and kids across the county will soon be taking to the tennis courts as Wimbledon prepares to serve up a slice of tennis next month.

And this summer our Children’s Award judging panel will also be teaming up to look at, amongst others, the nominations in our Going for Gold category.

This not only seeks achievements in the world of sport but also in music, visual and performing arts. And it is directed at children who are tackling their hobby regardless of disability.

Are you a football or rugby coach that has witnessed some incredible achievements from one of your members during the last year?

Or do you belong to a dance school or performing arts group in which a young person is doing amazing things in spite of a disability?

Are they deserving of an award?

Going for Gold is a category designed for children and young people who are winning awards or accolades or excelling in exams for a talent or hobby, regardless of the restrictions their disability might be placing upon them.

Alternatively the award could recognise someone who has fought serious illness while being able to continue their sport, music or chosen art.

Judges are keen to hear from any team, coach, group, leader or teacher who knows of a hard-working, talented, determined child who richly deserves a nomination in this category.

Overall there are six categories open for nominations this year.

At the end of the nomination process, judges will view all of the entries before finalists are invited to a fantastic and fun awards lunch on October 27 to announce and celebrate the winners.
