With new homes available from just £17,500, it’s no wonder that Moat housing association, has held a Back to the Seventies open day at its latest development in Stanhope, Ashford.

Kent-based Moat is celebrating the fact that it hasn’t been possible to buy a home at such an affordable price since the 1970s. Thanks to a part-buy/part-rent Government funded initiative, Moat is helping first-time buyers get a foot on the property ladder by enabling them to buy between 25 and 75 per cent of a new home.

At a later stage, further shares can be bought until the home is owned outright.

With house prices across Kent still considerably higher than average incomes for most first-time buyers, housing associations like Moat are bucking the housing market trend.

Stephen Walker, head of sales and marketing at Moat says: “Prospective first-time buyers earning between £12,000 and £60,000 can afford to own a high quality home through Moat and HomeBuy.”

Moat has 22 one-bedroom flats available on a part-buy/part-rent basis at Stanhope. The new homes form part of a £150m regeneration project that will see the refurbishment of 323 homes and the replacement of seven blocks of flats with 442 new high quality homes.

The Stanhope community has already been transformed with major improvements including better roads and road finishes, new footpaths and the transformation of some open green spaces into landscaped gardens. Stanhope is also home to a new shopping area including a mini-market with a post office and an off-licence.

Moat holds its next open day on Saturday, December 12. Alternative viewing dates are available.
