Girl moped rider killed in head-on crash

A 16-year-old girl was killed in a crash on a busy road at Cliffe Woods near Strood last night, just a year after another teenager died at the same spot. The accident happened at the junction of Dillywood Lane and Lower Rochester Road.

The girl, who has not yet been named, was thrown from her Aprilia moped after colliding with an oncoming car. A Strood fire station spokesman said: "It was a terrible incident. That moped was tiny. It was no bigger than a chair and she was thrown 50 metres from it."

The driver of the car, an 18-year-old male, was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital and later released with minor injuries.
