Gills' travel sickness continues

Yeovil Town 2 Gillingham 0

GILLINGHAM endured another difficult away day as they went down 2-0 at Yeovil Town on Saturday.

The home side took the lead on 17 minutes when Lee Morris allowed the ball to run from an offside position before Leon Best broke clear and slotted past debutant keeper Dean Brill.

The lead was almost doubled six minutes later but Morris' shot on the turn was too high.

Gary Mulligan came close to an equaliser on 40 minutes but his snapshot from the edge of the box was well saved by Steve Mildenhall.

Mulligan was again denied by Mildenhall shortly after half-time when he got on the end of Matt Jarvis' cross.

That save became doubly important in the 58th minute when Chris Cohen was on hand to score after Martin Brittain's corner to make it 2-0.

Ronnie Jepson made a triple substitution in a bid to inject some life into his team with Alan Pouton, Danny Spiller and Guylain Ndumbu-Nsungu coming on, but there was no way back for the Gills.

Gillingham: Brill, Sancho, Cox, Chorley (Spiller 63), Jupp, Bentley (Pouton 63), Crofts, Flynn (Ndumbu-Nsungu 63), Easton, Jarvis, Mulligan.
Subs not used: Johnson, Jackman.
