Gillingham expect to unveil more new signings in the coming days with talks taking place with three players.

Midfielder Chris Palmer became Gills’ latest addition earlier in the week and his arrival comes days after the club agreed new contracts with Andy Barcham, Simon King and Simon Royce.

Manager Mark Stimson is on the hunt for a striker, with an offer already tabled for Dagenham striker Paul Benson, and chairman Paul Scally (pictures)believes new signings are imminent.

He said: "Mark and I have been working hard on a few things all over the place and we’re pleased with how things are going.

"We’re working on three more deals and hopefully at least two of them will come off.

"We won’t be signing John Terry but I think the fans will be pleased with the signings.

"We’re a good club and people who watched us last season, particularly at Wembley, were impressed by the football that we played and players want to be part of it.

"There won’t be a lot of teams that fancy playing us next season. We’re going to be a strong, fit and mobile side who are young and there will also be plenty of competition for places."

Supporters have responded to the good vibes coming from the club and season ticket sales have already exceeded expectations.

"We’re past the 3,400 mark for season tickets which we budgeted for and so we’re pleased at that," said Mr Scally.

"We will have a better time in League 1 (this season). There is a great atmosphere around the club and the players have come back fit. They’re training hard and I’ve got no issues to deal with."
