Gillingham boss Martin Allen is set to bring in several youngsters to his team this weekend.

With the title already secured Allen has revealed his plans, as promised, ahead of their trip to Burton Albion.

While he is keeping his actual starting XI under wraps, there will definitely be a number of changes, with some of the young development squad players taking part.

And Allen (pictured) feels it is just reward for their hard work behind the scenes.

He said: “I will pick a team that I feel are in the best interests of the football club, the best interests of the players that have played, some of them 40-odd games, as a top of the league team for the whole season.

“As it was well-documented last week I had players playing with injuries, on Saturday, everybody must have known that.

“Also, we have had players who I have put through an intensive training programme for the last four months and I have some very good young players that I would like to reward.”

Allen has already been in touch with the Football League to ensure any changes he makes this weekend won’t cause any problems.

Burton are already guaranteed a play-off place in League 2 and only a freak set of results, including a huge win over the Gills, would see them leapfrog Rotherham into the promotion places.

Gillingham’s development squad played at Brentford on Tuesday afternoon and Allen was on the sidelines, watching carefully. Some of those players could start against Burton.

Whatever the team, Allen is taking every single member of the Gills squad to Burton and will be backed by at least 1,400 travelling fans.

“It’s going to be an amazing day,” added the Gills boss.
