Gillingham winger Andy Barcham returned to action from injury late on in the defeat against Accrington in the 1-0 FA Cup defeat on Tuesday night.

The winger came off the bench for his first appearance in a month, after a training ground injury, as boss Mark Stimson gambled on the player’s fitness.

Stimson said: "We had to make sure he warmed up properly and it was a risk I was prepared to take. Thankfully, he had no effects and he feels fine.

"It’s nice to have him back in the squad because he is someone who can get something out of nothing."

Meanwhile, the performance of centre-back Tom Wynter was a positive on an otherwise disappointing night.

The 19-year-old was making his first start after three successive substitute appearances.

Stimson said: "He did well. It was a hard one for him and he was tested as the boy up front for Accrington is a decent player. He can be pleased."

Whether Wynter gets many more chances, though, is dependent on Stimson’s activity in the transfer market.
