Gillingham will do everything they can to keep on-loan Norwich City striker Cody McDonald, says Paul Scally

Chairman Paul Scally has assured Gillingham fans that he will be doing all in his powers to bring leading scorer Cody McDonald to Priestfield permanently.

The 22-goal hit-man (pictured) will return to Championship side Norwich City at the end of this season when his current loan deal expires unless the Gills can engineer a move.

Mr Scally, writing in his programme notes before Saturday’s game against Hereford, said: "It’s true that the future of Cody is not in our hands, and to a certain extend not in his either, given he still has a year at Norwich under contract, but rest assured, we will do everything in our power that’s legal to try to get Cody back here.

"Sometimes, and we’ve seen it with other players over the years, some players just seem to fit in with a certain type of club, play their best football while at the club and often don’t shine as well at other clubs, and this may be one case."
