Gillingham travel to Swindon Town without suspended pair Lewis Montrose and Joe Martin while Chris Whelpdale is a doubt

Saturday's match-winner Lewis Montrose will miss the midweek trip to Swindon through suspension.

Joe Martin, who was also sent off in the win over Oxford, will join Montrose on the sidelines as Gillingham will be forced into making changes.

Chris Whelpdale is also a doubt for the trip to Gillingham’s historic rivals, but boss Andy Hessenthaler knows he has a squad to deal with the problem.

"We are fortunate we have a little depth there in the squad," he said.

"We had our skipper (Andy Frampton) on the bench (at the weekend) and we have players coming back from injury. That’s what we need at this time of the year."

Frampton, Charlie Lee and Danny Jackman all returned to the squad from injuries at the weekend and all made returns from the bench. The trio are now expected to take the place of those missing for Swindon.

Frank Nouble was carrying a knee injury at the weekend but Hessenthaler is hoping the on-loan West Ham man can play.

Danny Kedwell (pictured) is close to returning but Jack Payne won’t be risked, despite recently returning to training following an ankle injury.

Swindon, managed by colourful Italian Paolo Di Canio, sit 10th in League 2 and that game precedes a trip to high-flying Morecambe at the weekend.

But with Gills in form they aren’t games Hessenthaler is worrying about.

He said: "Swindon won’t be easy and there is a little bit of rivalry between the fans but we can take a lot of confidence going into the game.

"If we can come away unscathed in the next two games it will be a good week for us.

"They will be wary of us because we have scored 16 goals on our travels. We shouldn’t fear anyone in this division and it’s so open.

"Crawley have spent a lot of money and seem to have that bit between their teeth at the moment but it is a long season and things change.

"Come Christmas, with the climate and the pitches, you then need the right mentality of players and I believe we have that squad of players here."
