Gillingham are looking to beat the freeze by training at the former David Beckham Football Academy in South London.

Beckham no longer runs his academy out of the Greenwich site but with top-of-the-range indoor sporting facilities available Gills boss Andy Hessenthaler has booked his squad in for a session there on Tuesday.

With Gillingham’s training facilities at Beechings Cross still under snow they are short of options.

The team were utilising the 442 Sports & Social Club, which Hessenthaler part owns, on Monday but it’s not ideal.

“There is no way we can use the training ground as it’s just full of snow,” said Hessenthaler. “We are not going to get anything out of that.

“The indoor area up at Greenwich by the O2 is booked and there is a full-size pitch and we may have a practice match in there amongst ourselves.

"That will be beneficial to us but it’s obviously weather permitting and depending on travel conditions.”
