Gillingham target Matt Fish has opted to stay with Dover Athletic.

The defender signed a new contract with the Blue Square Bet South club on Tuesday despite interest from Andy Hessenthaler.

Fish, a former Crystal Palace youngster, was one player from last season’s Dover squad who Hessenthaler was keen to see follow him to Priestfield.

Dover chairman Jim Parmenter said: “Matt’s been a key player for us and we’re delighted he’s staying.”
